Introduction
In
a continued effort to expand the scope and reach of the User Modeling
conference series, UM 2007 has introduced Demonstrations of innovative
systems and prototypes as a new category of solicited contributions.
This new conference track is intended to showcase relevant research
prototypes, as well as industrial products, and to discuss them with
an international audience of experts in user modelling and adaptive
systems. The aim has been not only to acquaint participants with existing
technologies, but also, where possible, to exhibit the relevance and
viability of user modelling-related technologies in "real world
settings".
This year's instalment of the Demonstrations track attracted a total of five
participations. The demonstrators come from both academia and industry, and
the systems demonstrated span a multitude of application domains: social navigation
support in web systems; human-factors based personalisation of web content;
personalised interaction with cultural artefacts; user and usage profiling for
personalised television and video applications; and, computer-controlled opponents
with human-like behaviour in games.
You can get an overview of the demonstrations by downloading the
UM 2007 Demonstrations' Leaflet
(conference participants can find a printed copy of the leaflet
in their conference materials), and / or by attending the session
"Demo Spotlight Presentations" on the first day
of the conference (June 27th), 17:30-18:00, where the presenters
will provide a brief overview of their demos.
