Format Instructions for Submissions

The ACAI-99 Proceedings for the Workshop on Machine Learning and Intelligent Agents, will be printed directly from A4 (21.6 cm x 27.9cm) size or 8.5"x11"camera-ready copy furnished by the authors. To ensure that all papers in the Proceedings have a uniform appearance, authors are asked to adhere to the following instructions. This file includes the style instructions for submissions.

1. Title and Author Information

Each copy of a submitted paper must have a title page, separate from the body of the paper, that includes the title of the paper the names and addresses of all authors. Center the title on the entire width of the page in a 14-point bold font. Place the author information centered below the title in a 10-point font.A line should be left blank between the title and author information.

2. Abstract

Place the abstract at the beginning of the first column. Head the abstract with "Abstract" centered above the body of the abstract in a 12-point bold font. The body of the abstract should be in the same font as the body of the paper. The abstract should be a concise, one-paragraph summary describing the general thesis and conclusion of your paper. The abstract should be no more than 200 words long.

3. Style and Format of Text

Print manuscripts two columns to a page. The exact dimensions for pages are:

top margin - 1.25" (3.2cm)
bottom margin - .75" (1.9cm)
left margin - .63" (1.6cm)
right margin - .63" (1.6cm)
gap between columns: .50" (1.2cm)

top margin - 1.25" (3.2cm)
bottom margin - .75" (1.9cm)
left margin - .63" (1.6cm)
right margin - .63" (1.6cm)
gap between columns: .50" (1.2cm)

Manuscripts should be single spaced, with a double space between paragraphs. The main body of the text immediately follows the abstract. Use 10-point type in a clear, readable font. For reasons of uniformity, use Times Roman or Helvetica if possible. Indent when starting a new paragraph, except after major headings.

4. Headings

Headings should be used to separate major sections of your paper. Use 12-point type font in uppercase and the style must be bold. Number headings and subheadings with arabic numerals separated by a period.

5. Drawings - Photographs

Drawings and photographs must be centered under one or two columns of the body copy. Draw original line drawings in black ink, not pencil. Do not use color in drawings. Lines should be heavy enough to reproduce clearly. Use only black and white photographs. Color photographs do not reproduce well. Number illustrations sequentially. Use references of the following form: Figure 1, Table 2, etc. Place illustration numbers and captions under illustrations. Use 9-point type for captions, labels and other text in drawings - photographs.

6. References

References should be indicated in the text by a number in square brackets, e.g. [1]. References should be numbered in the order cited in the manuscript. The correct format for references is:

7. Length of Papers

Submissions must not be more than ten (10) pages, including drawings, photographs and references.
